Skiing in China

 Dear Ski Venture,

I read your article about skiing in China.
I had quite an adventure in China towards the end of the season last year.
Because it wasn't holiday season and I went on my own I got a very good deal from the hotel (basically I paid for the lift pass and got the room free). I think it's normal that all the runs won't be open. But there were three

black slopes open, which were a bit dodgey in the icy conditions (-30 degrees C) and one nice long intermediate slope where I learnt to snowboard.

It was quite a bizarre adventure going there, only able to speak a very

little bit of Chinese, trying to find my way around. The first morning they had to turn on the ski lift for me, as I was the only person on the mountain and it was already 10am.

Anyway, next season I plan on maybe doing a more extensive trip around China

and checking out some other slopes. Maybe I'll try Alshan in Inner Mongolia.

Corrie Birch.
