Ah, let’s see… I learnt snowboarding in good ol’ Snowcity in 2001 and began skiing in 2003.  To date, I’ve had the pleasure to ride twice in Korea, twice in Australia and once in Canada.  Lots (and lots, and lots) of money has been spent fueling my addiction, oh I meant passion.  Many good friends have been picked up along the way.  Much pain has been felt to learn what I can (and cannot) do.  Countless priceless memories have been earned as I learned, played, laughed, sulked and ate with great company and great scenery.  And so here I am: a little older, a little wiser (maybe...) and a little poorer.  And it was all worth it…

To me, the sensation of catching air on jumps, hearing your board hit the rails or just cruising down the slopes is just the best feeling.  It’s you against yourself against the mountain.  It’s about juggling safety, speed, physical endurance and mental boundaries. Oh, and nothing beats a hot coffee at the end of a long cold day to soothe your senses and calm your nerves.

I’m a strong believer that the secret to staying youthful and happy is to scare yourself on a regular basis by challenging your limits safely.  Oh yeah, bring on the black slopes baby!

Snowboarding history:
Pick it up in 2000 while studying in the UK, got so hooked to it. Ever since its been snow holidays ONLY for me every winter. Finally came back to Singapore in 2004 and suffering from withdrawal synptoms. Thank God I got to know these "Crazy bunch" of snow riders from Snowcity. After the recent Whistler/Big White trip with them, they're certifiably the most hardcore group of skiers/snowboarders in Singapore. Not only good riders on the mountains, but also experts in apres-ski activities. Back in snowcity, giving snowboarding lessons is good way to re-visit the fundamentals of snowboarding and definately cures the snow withdrawal symptoms to a certain extent. Can't wait for the next snow trip.

Got hooked to skiing while i was working in US some time ago....what attracts me to it? the bonding of you and the mountain, the feeling of zipping down a wide broad run just by yourself, the adrenaline the speed gives you, the scary look on my face when going through the trees without a helmet on, spectacular crashes (oouch....but you will just stand up and go again, trust me on this!), having to down 4 shots of espresso to get enough courage to drive up the snowy roads to heaven after a heavy dump, having cool friends to hang out with, hanging out with like-mind people and talk all day about the powder days, and not forgetting, the extreme rush of floating down a 4 feet virgin powder run.....man, the list can go on and on.
 
hope i will be able to help anyone who wishes to experience the same feeling with acquiring the skills they need, and if they are patient enough, listen to me talk and talk about the days on the mountain, and hopefully one day, they will come back and share stories of their own.

"Snowboarding in Singapore? Siao ah?"... Was what my friends said to me when i first told them about it. But look who's laughing now.... Kekekeke

My first contact with snow was in SnowCity and picked up the skills from my best buddies now, Nik, Ran and Jimboh in 2002. Although my learning phase was smooth, I too had my fair share of falls and bumps...  And thanks to those inspiring guys i never gave up and got to where i am now... Riding all over the WORLD. Well, not exactly yet.... only been to 4 countries and more to COME.

ADDICTION is what i'll call it.. the adrenalin rush, tha hair stand at the back of my neck after nailing a trick,the wind in your face after taking some air and the speed when you are rushing down the mountain is just pure exhilarating...  Try it, if you're an adrenalin junky...

Of course i do have the other side of me, when i need some peace  and tranquility, i'll tie some flies or head down to my watering holes for some flyfishing... "Flyfishing in Singapore? Siao ah?" 
you might ask... but yes along with me there are also many established fly fishos locally...

And if you're interested to meet more interesting people or get that adrenalin fix... You'll see more things done that you thought was never possible.

Thus far, I've spent 4 winters in 4 countries in a span of 1.5 years! A hardcore snowboarder? Not-at-all. Just that I simply can't resist the "awe" of this winter sport! I’ve been to NZ (Aug03) – The Remarkable, Coronet Peak, Cardrona, Treble Cone and Mt Hutt; Korea (Jan04) – Yong Pyong; OZ (Aug04) – Falls Creek, and the recent awesome trip to Canada, Big White (Jan05).

In fact, I’m snowboarding and skiing all-year-round in Singapore, at this mystical place called Snow City. Apart from teaching, Snow City is a great hangout place if you wanna know cool snowboarders from all over the world! (But first, try to get to know the “local pros” better by joining our “supper gang”)

When I’m not snowboarding or skiing, I’m either working, eating, sleeping, skating or scuba-diving. I love to teach and share so you are welcome if you want to know more about the above. My full-time profession? You won’t want to know lah. I’m working for the Government. P&C. :)

Between the 2 disciplines…Mmmm.. I take them both. Why? Simply because it is fun!

Why narrow your choice when you have paid so much for your ski trip? Anyway, screaming down hill at 50-60 kph forwards or sideways is fun on whichever mode of transport that you pick. Thinking back, I owe my achievements to 2 persons. Gottfried, (My German ski mentor) and Michael Chin (the grand master of skiing in S’pore)

I learnt to snowboard on my own and shocked myself with 2 bruised bums 6 yrs back! But, what doesn’t break you makes you stronger…..so now I have bums of steel.

I must say Ski trips are a lot like fishing trips…..you never know what you’ll get till you reach your destination. The snow reports might look great and promising but you may end up riding on slush, crud, ice cookies, in a blizzard when you arrive. So always depart with AN OPEN MIND and accept what is given to you by the big man!  A big part of it is whom you choose to go with, your riding buddies can make or break your trip. This is why I am so glad to meet the guys in SnowCity. These guys have the correct attitude and they ride hard! “even the girls are not to be tampered with! they can do board slides on 2 inch rails!”

Being on top of a mountain gives me a natural high. A lot of times that is where you can see as far as your eyes can see with out anything blocking. It puts me back into perspective of how insignificant I am when I could barely finish seeing the arch of the earth.

Snowboarding has taken me to many parts of the world with my dearest and closes friends and along the way made more new ones. My journey has just begun as now I am passing my skills and experiences to fellow Singaporeans who will one day realize that a 1 day Korea ski tour is not a ski trip and that Whistler is a marketing myth!

I have learnt to ski about 2 years ago in Toronto, Canada. First impression, then was it is mighty fun and would really like to spend more time doing it. Once back in Singapore, I really wanted to learn how to ski well and by the power of Google, I managed to track down  these guys from Snowcity that are teaching both snowboarding and sking. And that was about 7 months ago and now I eat,sleep and dream snow. I snowboard and ski as well. If you would to ask me to choose between them which is more fun , I say you cannot. They are entirely two different creature.Why limit Yourself to one , learn both and double the fun factor.

When I am not skiing or snowboarding, I devote my time to my next interest - the silver flute. I had been practising it for a year and I would bring it along the ski trip and have a great time jamming it in the mountain.

So far, I had been to  Falls Creek, Toronto, Whistler, Blackcomb and Big-white. If you would to ask me which is the best place to do it , I would say all of them. Each place offers its own different terrain and along with it , its own challenge. I have enjoyed all these places tremendously and I am a better rider after each trip.

So what are you guys waiting for . Stop reading this and come down and ride with us.

I started Snowboarding when I was 3 years old, just learning how to run faster... ... that was "bull Sh*t" I mean i hope if time turns back. Mainly because this awesome winter's sport is the only healthy game that I was into it.

The trip was plan for like 10 days, on the 3 days I was on the mountain with 2 others buddy (Nik & Jim). I started to ride for like some 1hour and I get to rest for the rest of the trip!

Still remember i started snowboarding on year 2001 around August, I actually lost my V*****nity to Falls Creek, Australia, I bleed alot and it was so hardcore that i actually twisted my knee.

Pcs of ADVISE, "if you can't, pay to learn" don't end up like me, waste alot of money and suffer.

When I'm not teaching or working, I spend most of my time doing what you are seeing now (on web). I work from Mon to Fri during office hr and teach both Skiing and Snowbaording from Tue to Sat evening... therefore, Sun to me is very impt. its my family day.

I've tried many hardcore sports, and this is the only that you can ride and talk at the same time with your best riding buddy. The second best part of this sport is the "Riding buddy Supper", we have that in almost every session!!! Can't wait man... ...

You know what.... I work very very hard during the day time just to support my riding hobby!!! Cos, this is the only time that i can relax and STOP thinking about my office job, just another way to DE-STRESS myself.
